V2 extension missing in Illustrator

If you are able to open the Overlord 2 extension in After Effects but Illustrator, this is for you.

Enable debug mode

  1. Download ZXP/UXP Installer from aescripts + aeplugins

  2. Open settings

  3. Navigate to CEP settings

  4. ✅ Enable debugging

  5. Restart Ai

If that doesn't work, try the next option ↓

Install an Illustrator workspace with Overlord open

  1. Download the workspace with Overlord visible

  2. Unzip the download to find the file overlord-2

  3. Navigate to the Illustrator workspaces folder

    • Windows: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version number] Settings\[locale (e.g. en_US)]\x64\Workspaces/

    • macOS: /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator [version number] Settings/[locale (e.g. en_US)]/Workspaces/

  4. Copy the overlord-2 workspace file into this folder

  5. Restart Illustrator

  6. Click the workspaces menu in the top right of Ai

  7. Enable overlord-2

The layout of panels will rearrange but you should now be seeing the Overlord panel. Rearrange your layout as you see fit.

Why is the happening?

There seems to be some kind of bug in the recent builds of Illustrator that doesn't let certain extensions open. But if they are already open, it seems to trick Ai into realizing that it's ok to run that extension. After opening the workspace, you should be all set moving forward.

This happens on some machines and it's still a mystery why.

A really clever community member on Discord discovered this one.
