Not every render is a final render
Staying on the same creative page with a remote team doesn't have to be a challenge. Quickly render and share project updates with the click of a button – as a tiny MP4 with consistent file naming and in the right folder.
Being in the flow is where you belong
Manifest the evidence of your effort and share your place in a project, while holding on to your focus. With all your settings to defined, it's even possible to render in the background.
Short and sweet
We are all trying to do our best work and screw up as little as possible.
System overview
Photoshop 2025+ no longer supports Anubis
We knew it was coming sooner or later, but Photoshop 2025+ can no longer run ZXP extensions –even in Rosetta mode.
Anubis still runs great in Ae/An/Pr.
To continue using Anubis in photoshop, downgrade to 2024.

Serious question
Bestest practices
Birthed in the chaos of Ae unable to export an MP4, Anubis filled the vacuum of small video rendering.
Now that it's possible to export an MP4 from the render queue, where does Anubis fit?
simplicity
Animation is hard work, so enjoy the process.
TLDR
What is it?
The fastest loading (and best looking) video files you'll ever see online
A dynamic file naming and folder management system (naming tokens)
The quickest way to render a high quality MP4 file from the Adobe apps that support video
Render and send to other apps
MP4s from KBar
What it's not?
A fully customizable interface for dialing every aspect of a compression codec
The only way to render MP4s out of After Effects anymore
The most reliable way to prep final files for delivery
Common questions
Creative
Will there ever be more options?
↓
Probably not
The strength of Anubis comes from simplicity and adding even more customization is not part of the plan. Media Encoder has all the options and BG Render Max is a great alternative when you need extra control.
Ae can render MP4s, so isn't this obsolete?
↓
Depends
Anubis was released during a bleak period when After Effects could not export MP4 files. If all you need is MP4 files then you might not need Anubis. But if you enjoy dynamic file names and folder paths and a one-click button to render, then it might be your new best friend.
Also, our MP4 quality and file size are really good.
Can I use it to export my 2+ hour documentary?
↓
Maybe
But it's probably not a good idea. Anubis utilizes the Adobe scripting API Which is fairly limited when it comes to memory management. Anything you want to render overnight is probably best done with native render systems.

Why doesn't it work in Ps 2025?

Adobe dropped ZXP support
For a couple of years, Adobe has been working on an add-on format called UXP to replace ZXP. We build all of our tools on ZXP because that is the most robust format for After Effects (which is our primary app here). The UXP rollout has been slow and for the last few versions Photoshop has supported both, but starting in 2025, ZXP support is gone 😢.
Why not just build a new version?
We would love to, but unfortunately some of the low-level technology that allowed the plugin to run has been removed from the UXP platform. This means we might not be able to rebuild it for UXP, but we'll be looking for workarounds. Thanks for your patience.
Is an internet connection required?
↓
No
The standard authentication method uses an internet connection to unlock, but after that, it runs entirely offline. If an initial internet connection is not possible, the app will help you unlock with a mobile device.
